Fiber Optic Equipment and Installation
Equipment – Modem/Router – $140
Most of our customers want multiple ethernet ports and in home Wi-Fi. This requires a combination modem/router and we highly recommend our Adtran 834-5 device.

Equipment – Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) – Optional
The only problem with fiber optics is that it does not transmit electricity. As a result, the fiber optic equipment in your home has to be plugged into an electrical outlet and will not work during a power outage unless you have a backup generator or a uninterrupted power supply (UPS). A UPS is basically the battery backup for your fiber optic equipment. Without a backup battery or alternate backup source such as a generator, customers will not be able to make any calls from their home landline phone – including emergency calls to 911.
You can purchase a Precision Power 36W Micro UPS 8-hour backup battery directly through EBTC for approximately $80 plus tax, or the 24-hour battery backup approximately $200 plus tax in the event of an electrical outage. This 24-hour option has 3 separate batteries, each with 8-hour usage. Our replacement 8-hour backup batteries cost approximately $42 each plus tax for either model. If you do not feel comfortable installing your own battery, please call us to make an appointment, and we would be happy to assist you. However, please note that there may be a charge for this service. If you have any questions or simply want to purchase a backup battery through us, please call 319-935-3011 or stop by our office at 214 Third Street North in Winthrop.
Please Note: The battery backup ONLY PROVIDES POWER to your fiber optic equipment. It DOES NOT provide power to your actual phone set, cordless phone device or your internet router.

Cost of Fiber Optics Installation

*Standard installation includes all material and labor required to:
- Mount a fiber access box on the exterior of your home
- Run the fiber into your home.
- Mount and terminate the fiber electronics.
- Install and program UPS if purchased from EBTC
- Test internet and voice service
- Connect the modem/router if purchased from EBTC
- Standard time and material charges will apply to any addition or changes to your inside wire (voice or data).
Long Distance Rates
With East Buchanan’s super low rate long distance plans, you’ll pay lower rates than other long distance companies offer, with no surprises or hidden fees. With East Buchanan, you get the same low rate all the time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anywhere in the country. And, you’ll pay only 10¢ per minute with a $3.95 monthly charge, or only 14¢ per minute with no monthly fee.
Use less than 2 hours of long distance per month, and the 14¢ per minute rate will save you the most money.

Call Forwarding – $2.00/month
Stop sitting by the phone waiting for that important phone call. With Call Forwarding, you can forward your calls to another phone, or to your wireless phone and take them with you when you go. Great for busy families.
Distinctive Ring [teen line] – $2.00/month
Get your teen their own phone number, without adding another phone line, and stop running to the phone every time the phone rings. With Distinctive Ring, you’ll always know when the phone is for you, because you’ll hear a different ringing tone. You’ll even hear a different call waiting tone when you’re on the phone. I need security
Warm Line – $2.00/month
When you lift the handset, if you haven’t dialed within 30 seconds, you telephone will automatically dial an emergency number. This is a very inexpensive way to keep senior citizens, and children safe. If there’s an emergency, they can simply knock the phone off the hook, and help will be on its way.
Call Forwarding – $2.00/month
You can forward your calls to another phone when you’re on vacation or away from home. This protects you, because no one will ever know that you’re not at home. Great for people who travel or who are away from home often.
