Burnita Reed

Burnita was born near Quasqueton. When she married Graydon Reed, they farmed near Winthrop. In 1957 they moved into town and she began teaching at the Winthrop High School. She taught until 1973 when her husband convinced her to retire so they could go south in the winter.

Gail Griswold

Gail was born on a farm near Winthrop and attended country school for 7 years before moving into town. After graduating from Winthrop High School in 1934 she worked in the Winthrop grocery store. She later became a clerk for the Winthrop Post Office where she stayed until retiring after 37 years.

John Hogan

John lives on the farm where he was born. He farmed for several years before going to work at the local bank. In 1965, he became the Winthrop Postmaster where he remained until retiring after 28 years. John has been involved with many organizations, volunteering and serving on boards. John enjoys life to the fullest!

Virgil Bateman

Virgil was born on a farm near Winthrop but moved to town as a baby. After graduation, Virgil served in the Army as a machine gunner in Germany during World War II. He then went to work for the Railroad and retired after 43+ years. He enjoys woodworking and volunteering. He played a big part in getting the Railroad Depot in Independence.

Byron & Della Merrill

Byron was born in Winthrop and Della was born north of Winthrop. Della later moved to Quasqueton where she grew up. Byron was a rural mail carrier for 33 years and Della was involved with Fairchild Feed. After marriage, they lived in Winthrop until February 2006 when they moved to Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence, Iowa.
